Tandragee GC secure first Green Pennant - All Ireland 2019 Jimmy Bruen Winners
What a week in County Mayo! Tandragee GC’s Jimmy Bruen Team travelled to Westport to take part in the All Ireland semi finals. Early on Friday morning they met Roscommon GC in their semi-final defeating the opposition 3.5 – 1.5 leading to a place in Saturday’s final.
Saturday’s final began at 12md against The Island GC. In the first match Benjimin Boyd & James McConville went down 3&2 before Chris Fearon & Adam Proctor brought the next match home with an impressive 6&5.
The next three games went the distance in a thrilling Bruen final. Tandragee pair John Haffey and Andrew Thompson secured a one-hole win at the 18th but The Island pairing eagled 19 defeating Johnny Quinn & Dean Acheson to leave the match poised at two points apiece.
With the rain pouring down at Westport, players and supporters flocked to game five. All square after 18 holes, the final game returned to the 1st. Both pairs found the green in regulation but Tandragee’s Aidan Place fired his approach from 74 yards into five feet before Jeff Forde emerged as the hero of the day, sinking a winning birdie putt.
